![]() However, ideas like the one in this post got me rethinking. I have embraced the plaintext and WYSIWYM philosophy a long time ago. The subscription model weights in when thinking about its flaws too. Ulysses has been helping me with my thesis but I don't find its organization useful for long academic writing and I don't like the hiding of files. This particular essay is short and I expect it will have only 2 or 3 files.Thank Brett Terpstra, the creator of Marked2.Here is a screenshot of the menu item that calls Marked2 from the zettel in The Archive and initiates the live preview. I've created a short video show roughly a workflow starting to develop around the live preview and the ability to write in small (atomic) fragments and use an outline to rearrange them. Using just The Archive and Marked2, I think I have come close to 'Scrivenizing' a workflow for writing anything longer than a blogpost using preexisting zettel and mixing with new zettel. Qtpass uses the PGP key storage slots on the yubikey. qtpass is also single factor, but using the yubikey instead of a password that could be guessed. That's essentially single factor auth using password on the store. The other password managers, afaik, have a master password and only use u2f for online login to your account. Problem is, since almost everything is different, there’s not much left resembling the first one. Too bad they couldn’t use the same tone and style, but I guess you can’t do everything the same. Danny Boyle admits that this sequel is a cash-in on the name value made by the first one. Imogen Poots does alright too and Idris Elba was in there somewhere. Jim just sorta wandered around in the first one, so I guess 28 Weeks Later is more focused and more polished, but it doesn’t make me like it any better. Since the story is about how the military is dealing with the virus, his character fits in pretty well. He’s a super smart guy and a tough cookie. He’s not an everyman like Jim from the first movie. Jeremy Renner plays Doyle, a sniper in the military. The cast is pretty good, at least when they get to do stuff other than run away. Those scenes are shot traditionally and really don’t add much except to give us bigger stuff like more explosions. Also, the long shots of the city and the military stuff seems to contrast the personal tone, which is not both good and bad. The movie was shot mostly with hand-held cameras, which is good and bad, mostly bad for my stomach. It was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, whose work started in short films, so you can tell why 28 Weeks Later seems so up-close and personal. Anyway, the scene is mostly pitch black and the camera sticks very closely to the characters, as they fall down and fight the infected (not zombies). An air attack forces the characters into the London Underground, because they’re trying to meet a helicopter, so they can get the heck out of Dodge. ![]() I will say that one scene is way better than anything in the original. And it didn’t have any shaky-cam crap either. It’s got more weird camera angles and shots of the cityscape and just more stupid stuff than you can shake a stick at. It’s got more medical gross-outs and people expelling blood from their mouth like a hose. More decapitations like it’s Final Destination or something. 28 Weeks Later had no warning.Ģ8 Weeks Later also didn’t warn me that it had more crap not found in the original. Back when I bought tickets for Cloverfield (2008), there was this neon-pink sign warning me that shaky-cam crap was imminent. Remember when they used to have a warning about this kind of thing in the theatre? I do. I can’t deal with shaky-cam crap in general, as you can tell from my rant, and I’ve got two paragraphs into this blog post where I’ve only talked about how the shaky-cam makes me dizzy. I thought to myself ‘hey self, dealing with the shaky-cam crap on DVD shouldn’t be as bad as on the big screen, right?’. It’s not an introspective quest for survival anymore-nope, it’s just jammed full of shaky-cam crap to make me sick to my stomach. Ok, so I bought Danny Boyle’s 28 Weeks Later (2007) on DVD, but I can’t watch it because of all the stupid shaky-cam crap in this stupid, shaky-cam movie. ![]() IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE. In the setup function, pin number 3 is made known to the servo object. I made use of the servo library to control the MG 996R motor. +5V (Powering the motor directly from the Arduino, might damage the Arduino) Next, Arduino’s pin #3 is wired to the orange input of the servo motor. Luckily, it is easily possible to connect two male jumper wires to a single terminal block of the adapter. In order to guarantee the same signal level, the terminal adapter’s “-” signal is wired to one of the Arduino’s GND pins. Accordingly, the “+” signal is wired to the servo’s red input. The “-” signal from the USB terminal adapter is wired to the brown input of the servo motor. For the wiring, I made use of a USB terminal adapter. In particular, I took a 5V USB power supply (power bank) to power the motor. In order to overcome this problem, I wired the motor to an external power supply. As a consequence, the Arduino might get damaged. The motor will likely draw to much current from the Arduino. Unfortunately, the motor can’t be directly powered from the Arduino. The motor has three wires: Brown (GND), Red (+5V) and Orange (PWM signal). If the motor has completed the last position, the sequence starts again. The motor rotates to four different positions with a delay of one second in between. The example application is kept very simple. Caution: There are different manufacturers, values might vary. For example, you can see the MG 996R very frequently in 3D-printed robotic arm applications. In contrast to the likewise popular SG90 servo, the MG 996R is able to rotate much higher weights. The MG 996R is a popular servo motor within the Arduino Community. Moreover, this tutorials includes a simple code example that let’s the motor rotate to various rotary positions. This tutorial shows how to wire the MG 996R servo to an Arduino. The MG 996R is one of the most popular servo motors within the maker community. A servo motor allows to precisely control a shaft to a specific rotary position. Becky is by far the best of the new characters and although she’s not in many scenes and doesn’t even speak she steals every scene she’s in. These new characters include the aforementioned Hank (Ed O’Neill), the sea lions Rudder and Fluke (Dominic West and Idris Elba – though there is disappointingly no mention of the Pacific Rim breach), Destiny the whale shark (Kaitlin Olson), Bailey the beluga whale (Ty Burrell) and lastly Becky the loon bird. All the new characters inside the marine rescue centre (based on Vancouver Aquarium) have some form of disability. I’ve not seen a kids’ movie that is so overtly positive towards disabled characters as Finding Dory is and I love it. Each of the characters is disabled in some way, and through perseverance or with the help of their friends the characters overcome their perceived limitations and triumph–aside from Marlin, who is really just kind of a jerk (though he does kind of overcome that too). I’d certainly ship them but it’s frustrating that we have to rely on body language and looks instead of Disney just saying ‘Yes, they happen to be lesbian.’ The couple gets a small cute scene with Hank the septapus (as they have seven legs not eight) and Dory–which conveniently brings us to the best part of Finding Dory. The official word came down from Disney-Pixar that they could be ‘whatever you want them to be’–straight coding for ‘yes, but we’re not going to say.’ Very disappointing, Disney. ![]() The trailer showed two women together and many people assumed from their looks, proximity and body language that they were lesbians. Two women shocked at Disney not confirming they are a lesbian couple I wish Ellen cared about transgender people but her repeated behavior says she doesn’t–however, you can see this movie without worrying about encountering any bad trans jokes. It turns out that this was another of Ellen’s jokes made in poor taste at the trans community’s expense–her third in recent years. All trans people started panicking about cis-written trans representation and hoping that it wasn’t a mess. Before the movie’s release she was joking around about a transgender stingray–“ We have a stingray that become a sting-Rhonda”–and people started wondering if Finding Dory could be considered a film with trans representation. If you’re an animation fan like me then it’s worth the price of admission just to see this short on the big screen.Īs well as ignoring the Finding Dory trailers, you also have to ignore Ellen DeGeneres, who continues to be a jerk to transgender people. It’s cute and funny, one of the best Pixar shorts for quite some time. ![]() The little piper makes a mistake and is hit by a large wave and then has to overcome their fear of the water. In it we meet a baby piper who is learning to feed themselves for the first time, encouraged by their watchful parent. ![]() The short is called Piper and it’s about sandpipers, small birds that mostly eat at the tidal line, either wading or dodging the waves to get at food. That said, it’s not as good as the Pixar short that runs before the movie. The virtual camera swoops past so many fish it’s a wonderful sight. Finding Dory looks sharper, with so much more going on compared to the original. ![]() In real time it’s 14 years later and CGI has improved a lot. In movie time, Finding Dory takes place just one year after the original Pixar classic. It’s taken the heart of the first movie and ramped up the characters’ personas, action and most importantly the emotions. When approaching this review, all I needed to ask myself was–what would Dory do? She’d ignore the mediocre trailers, for a start Finding Dory is as good as if not slightly better than Finding Nemo. The fire-rate is slower than other guns - if you’re suddenly surrounded by enemies, this is a challenging weapon to use.The ammo in each clip is limited, but the Bulldog makes up for it with high damage from every shot. The Bulldog basically is a classic revolver, best at close quarters or mid-range.Its fast fire-rate and lack of reload-ability are both great for intense fights - shoot fast, shoot many - as long as you make your shots count.įor the Gunner’s secondary weapon slot, you’re choosing between the “Bulldog” Heavy Revolver and the BRT7 Burst Fire Gun. Our Preference for the Gunner’s Primary Weapon: Effective weapons and mod choices can be very situational but our current preference is to go with the “Lead Storm.” We really like the long range of the weapon - we can initiate combat from further away and be able to weaken enemies until they are in the range of our teammates’ weapons (especially important as this game is co-op preferred). Resistance at Full Rate of Fire (Damage reduction when at a full rate-of-fire).Penetrating Rounds (Increases armor break by 400%).High-Velocity Rounds (Increases damage to 18).Tighter Barrel Alignment (Improves accuracy).Expanded Ammo Bags (Adds 220 more ammunition to the total carried). One of the problems this weapon suffers from is the lowered accuracy, especially when enemies are at a distance and you’re low on ammo - and bullets actually hitting their target starts to matter. In certain situations, and with the right mods, this gun could excel as a “boss killer.” The weapon does a good job of damaging stronger enemies, or enemies that are closely grouped up (thanks to the area damage). The weapon feels really good to handle and has a solid 14 damage per shot plus 8 explosive area damage (22 total damage depending on the circumstances).Long range shots work ok, but their accuracy drops.Continuous shooting picks up the fire-rate.Starts with a fair amount of ammunition in the clip.Cold As The Grave (every kill cools the gun down for longer consistent firing).Lighter Barrel Assembly (shortens the spin-up time, which gets you to improved accuracy sooner).Hardened Rounds (200% Armor Break Bonus - great against some of the tougher shielded enemies).Improved Platform Stability (to assist with accuracy, especially when initially firing). The Mods we like for the “Lead Storm” are: ![]() This causes a short cooldown period where you won’t be able to use the “Lead Storm”. ![]() That said, you’ll have to be careful about how much ammo you use - it can be easy to blow through your 2,400 bullets if there’s a swarm incoming - and there’s no reload available until you call down for an ammo supply drop.Īnd as with most mini-guns, it can easily overheat. |
